1. Overview
MindFocus Free is a Chrome sidebar extension designed to help users practice focusing on one activity at a time, manage distractions, and develop consistent attention habits.
The extension provides a focus timer, optional website Focus Lock, locally stored activity records, session reflections, Thought Parking, and Personal Insights.
MindFocus follows a privacy-conscious approach that minimizes data handling and prioritizes local Chrome browser storage rather than requiring user registration, cloud accounts, or a developer-operated synchronization server.
2. Information handled by the extension
MindFocus Free handles the following information when users choose to use its features:
- Focus activity data: User-entered objectives, selected categories, planned session durations, timestamps, completed sessions, and accumulated focus time.
- Optional personal reflections: User-reported session outcomes, including objectives completed, progress made, or interrupted sessions, together with optional written reflections.
- Optional subjective ratings: User-selected focus and worry intensity ratings on a scale of 1–5. These ratings are self-reported and do not represent clinical or diagnostic measurements.
- Thought Parking notes: Text voluntarily entered by users to temporarily set aside distracting thoughts or concerns. These notes may contain sensitive information if users choose to enter it.
- Preferences: Selected timer durations, notification preferences, Focus Lock settings, and supported website groups selected for blocking.
- Focus Lock technical state: Local session status and supported website-domain identification used to determine whether website restrictions should be applied or released.
MindFocus does not intentionally collect website page content, passwords, private messages, financial credentials, or browsing history.
The extension does not maintain a log of visited websites for behavioral tracking.
User precaution: Avoid entering passwords, banking credentials, government identification numbers, or highly sensitive personal information in free-text fields.
3. Where information is stored
MindFocus Free stores user-generated records and application preferences in chrome.storage.local, within the user’s Chrome browser profile.
The current version does not require registration or login and does not operate a developer-managed cloud synchronization service.
MindFocus Free does not intentionally transmit locally stored objectives, Thought Parking notes, session records, or optional self-assessments to Felix Cordero Jr., external AI providers, or advertising analytics systems.
Google Chrome may independently process extension installation, update, security, and browser-service information under Google’s applicable privacy policies and terms.
3.1. Storage access security — Version 0.1.9
Beginning with version 0.1.9, MindFocus restricts access to locally stored application records through Chrome’s storage access controls.
Access to chrome.storage.local is restricted to trusted extension contexts, including authorized background and extension-interface components.
Content scripts operating on supported external websites cannot directly read the user’s private focus records, Thought Parking notes, objectives, or optional self-assessments from extension local storage.
For Focus Lock functionality, supported-site content scripts may request a limited blocking-status decision from the extension’s background service worker.
These requests return only the information needed to determine whether a selected website should be temporarily restricted. They do not disclose the user’s complete application state, personal reflections, or private notes.
These controls restrict access through the tested extension interfaces. They do not guarantee protection against a compromised device, operating system, browser profile, or other forms of unauthorized local access.
3.2. Important security limitations
MindFocus does not independently encrypt its locally stored records or exported JSON files.
People with access to a user’s computer, operating-system account, Chrome profile, or exported files may be able to access stored information.
Users are responsible for protecting their devices, using appropriate operating-system security, and avoiding untrusted or shared Chrome profiles when storing sensitive notes.
4. Website blocking permissions
MindFocus includes an optional feature called Focus Lock, designed to temporarily reduce access to user-selected distracting websites during active focus sessions.
When enabled, Focus Lock applies temporary website restrictions using Chrome’s declarativeNetRequest functionality and supported-site protection mechanisms.
The extension requests host permissions for supported social-media and entertainment websites because certain redirects, navigation handling, and fallback protections require site-specific access.
Chrome may describe these permissions as allowing the extension to read and change data on selected websites.
4.1. How Focus Lock processes website access
MindFocus content scripts identify supported website domains and request a limited boolean blocking decision from the extension’s background service worker.
The content scripts do not directly access private local storage or retrieve the user’s complete application state.
MindFocus does not intentionally inspect account messages, passwords, private forms, website page text, or browsing history as part of its Focus Lock functionality.
4.2. Automatic blocking and unlocking
Focus Lock follows the active focus-session lifecycle:
- Before a session: Focus Lock may remain enabled and armed, but selected websites remain accessible.
- When a session starts: Selected website restrictions are activated automatically.
- During an active session: Supported distracting websites are temporarily restricted and may display a branded MindFocus pause notice.
- When a session is paused, stopped, or completed: Active website restrictions are released.
- When another session begins: Restrictions activate again if Focus Lock remains enabled.
The Focus Lock switch may remain ON after a session finishes. This indicates that Focus Lock is armed for future sessions, not that websites are continuously blocked.
4.3. Focus Lock limitations
Focus Lock cannot guarantee that every webpage, previously loaded tab, cached page, other browser, device, native mobile application, or future domain variation will be blocked.
Already-redirected tabs may continue displaying the MindFocus pause notice after a session ends. Users may need to follow the Return link, reload the website, or navigate to the original website again.
Selected website preferences are stored locally within the user’s Chrome browser profile.
5. Use of information
MindFocus uses locally handled information exclusively for its disclosed productivity and focus-management functions.
These functions include:
- Displaying active focus timers and session objectives.
- Managing optional website restrictions.
- Delivering configured focus reminders and notifications.
- Recording session durations and self-reported outcomes.
- Displaying personal habit summaries, session history, and productivity insights.
- Maintaining user-selected settings and preferences.
MindFocus does not use personal information for personalized advertising, advertising profiles, creditworthiness assessments, or lending decisions.
Personal Insights describe recorded focus activity and voluntary self-assessments. They do not measure intelligence, medical conditions, or clinical mental health.
6. Disclosures and sharing
MindFocus Free v0.1.9 does not include user-account registration, developer-managed uploads, third-party advertising integrations, user analytics SDKs, or the sale of user information.
User-generated focus records and Thought Parking notes are not intentionally transmitted or shared with external services by the extension’s current functionality.
6.1. Voluntary support communication
If a user contacts the developer by email or through the official website, the submitted information is processed using the chosen communication service and may be used to respond to support, technical, security, or privacy inquiries.
Users should avoid sending sensitive personal notes, private journal content, or complete JSON exports unless necessary and voluntarily authorized.
6.2. User-controlled exports
MindFocus allows users to export supported local records into a JSON file.
Users are responsible for deciding whether to store, transfer, or share exported files.
MindFocus does not automatically upload these files to the developer or a cloud service.
Exported JSON files are not separately encrypted by MindFocus.
7. Retention and deletion
MindFocus stores records locally within the user’s Chrome browser profile, subject to application-defined retention limits and Chrome storage behavior.
In version 0.1.9, the application maintains the following record limits:
- Up to 5,000 detailed session records.
- Up to 1,830 daily aggregate dates.
- Up to 40 Thought Parking notes.
Users can delete individual Thought Parking notes or clear all parked thoughts through the available interface controls.
The current Free Edition does not provide granular deletion of individual session-history entries or a JSON import/restore function.
7.1. Uninstallation and storage removal
Removing MindFocus from Chrome normally removes its locally stored extension data.
Installing another build with a different extension ID may create a separate storage environment and may not provide access to records stored under the previous extension ID.
Users should export important records before uninstalling or switching installations.
Important: Although JSON export is supported, MindFocus Free v0.1.9 does not include a built-in JSON import or restoration feature. An exported file cannot currently be restored through the application.
Users are responsible for securely storing any exported files.
8. Children’s use
MindFocus is a general-purpose productivity utility and is not specifically designed for children.
The extension does not require users to create accounts or provide birth dates.
Users should not enter another person’s sensitive personal information without appropriate authorization or consent.
Parents or guardians should provide appropriate supervision when children use productivity tools or enter personal information.
9. Mental wellbeing disclaimer
MindFocus is a productivity and self-management tool, not a clinical mental-health assessment, therapy, diagnosis, treatment, or medical device.
Focus-session durations, objective outcomes, productivity summaries, and voluntary self-ratings do not establish or measure a user’s mental health, cognitive ability, or intelligence.
The application is not intended to diagnose, prevent, treat, or monitor psychological or medical conditions.
Users experiencing persistent distress, anxiety, attention difficulties, or other problems that interfere with everyday functioning should seek guidance from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
10. Security and changes
MindFocus aims to follow reasonable security and privacy practices, including limiting browser permissions to disclosed product features, keeping executable application code bundled within the extension, and restricting unnecessary access to locally stored personal records.
Version 0.1.9 introduces additional storage-access restrictions intended to prevent supported website content scripts from directly accessing private application records.
No software system can guarantee complete protection against all security threats, browser vulnerabilities, device compromises, or unauthorized local access.
The developer may update this Privacy Policy when necessary to reflect changes in features, security controls, legal requirements, or data-handling practices.
When material changes to data practices occur, the developer will provide applicable notices and obtain consent where required.
Future paid subscriptions, AI-assisted features, user accounts, cloud synchronization, or external integrations are not included in MindFocus Free v0.1.9.
Such features would require separate technical, security, and privacy reviews, together with appropriate disclosures before release.
11. Chrome Web Store Limited Use
MindFocus processes user information only as necessary to deliver its disclosed focus-training and productivity functionality.
MindFocus does not sell user data, use personal information for personalized advertising, or use collected information for creditworthiness assessments or lending purposes.
Information handled by MindFocus is not intentionally transferred or used for purposes unrelated to the extension’s disclosed functionality.
MindFocus’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs are subject to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including applicable Limited Use requirements.
The developer intends to maintain compliance with Google’s Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies and applicable user-data requirements.
